In 1906, the city of Atlanta, Georgia was the most modern and prosperous Southern city in America. It was the nation's second fastest growing city. Only Los Angeles was growing faster.
But at the end of that summer, a riot and massacre started a shooting war between Black and White citizens of the city.
News of the riot was published from San Francisco to New York. From London to Paris to other parts of Europe.
